This is all I was waiting for since we lost to bangladesh at the world cup. The Mirpur test victory of India has proved that Indian Team was down, but not out. This test victory certainly gives the team a lot of boost for the upcoming series of England where they play 3 tests and 7 one dayers. They also play a tri-nation ODI tournament in Ireland in the same tour. South Africa and ireland being the other two teams.

This is the biggest win for India in test cricket and quite an impressive one too. India didn’t need to bat the second time. A win by an innings and 239 runs proved to the world that World Cup loss of India is now forgotten and the Indian Team has moved ahead. With Dave Whatmore stepping into the coache’s shoes in a couple of weeks and all the top batsmen in prime form it will be a tough task for England to deal with the Indian Batsmen.

Another plus point is the ever improving performance of Zaheer Khan after his comeback. This Man and Sourav gangully have proved yet again that ‘Where there is a Will, There is a Way’. Anil Kumble also is a very closely watched entity for the tour. Ramesh Powar, RP Singh and VRV singh will probably complete the bowling attack. Munaf Patel will join too, but that depends on the fitness test.

Coming back to the Mirpur Test, Zaheer was named man of the match. Sachin proved again that there is a lot of cricket left in him and he was named Man of the Series.

This was easily the most awaited movie for me of this year till now. There was a scarcity of good action films since Kaante, Khaki, Qayamat and Musafir came. We saw some cheesy larger than life action in Dhoom 2 and Krishh but that wasn’t the kind of action, the fans of this genre of movie were looking forward to.

Sanjay Gupta’s film always have had class, well this one does too. This time Gupta gives the director’s seat to Apoorva Lakhia, the one who directed Mumbai Se Aya Mera Dost and Ek Ajnabee, which bombed at the Box Office. This one certainly wont.

The movie is based on real life incident of the encounter of Maya Dolas and his gang, which had shooters like Bhua, Doubling, Fattu and Arsi. In an encounter which took place for 6 hours and over 1755 rounds were fired, was successfully carried out by the then ACP of Mumbai, Mr. A.A.Khan whose role is played by Sanjay Dutt. Maya Dolas has been lived on screen by Vivek Oberoi.Though the real ACP Khan also plays a small part in the movie. He is the Police Commissioner of Mumbai on screen.

The last 30 minutes, the actual shootout is the most interesting part of the movie. The movie gives you an entertaining 2 hours ride and a point to think upon. The point to think upon is that is this treatment that should be given to underworld ‘pantars’ and the terrorists. My opinion is, YES.

Talking about performances, Sanjay Excels and in unbeatable. However, Vivek has given a power packed performance and is the show stealer this time. Tusshar, Rohit, Shabbir, Aditya, Arbaaz, Akhilenda have done well too. Special mention to Suniel Shetty, a brilliant performance again. Note to the film makers, please start taking Sunil seriously. This guy is much better than the over-rated Badshahs and Ikkas of Bollywood.

Conclusion: - Shootout of Lokhandwala is a much watch for all of them who like dark action, cop-underworld films. But hey, this time its real, not a fiction.

My Rating: - 4/5

After Sanjay Khanduri with Ek Chalis Ki Last Local, its Anurag Singh making a mark into bollywood with Raqeeb. Raqeeb is a suspense thriller, with lots of twists and turns.

The movie goes into flashbacks, and jumps back to the presents and by the time the conclusion arrives, the scattered pieces of the jigsaw puzzle fir in to give a clear picture of the main plotters mind games.

Remo (Rahul Khanna) is a niche businessman. His parents died in a car crash in his childhood. He since then is leading a secluded life, although he is a successful businessman. Sidharth (Sharman Johsi), is Remo’s friend, employee and well wisher who boosts Remo to socialize and fixes up a blind date in Sophie (Tanushree Dutta) for him. Sophie is a theater professional and co incidentally her parents also died in the same car crash which claimed the life of Remo’s parents. Sophie and Remo in sometime fall in love and then get married.

However, as Sunny (Jimmy Shergill) enters the scene, the story take a different route all together. He is passionate about Sophie, the old love is rekindled and they have an affair. Sophie and Sunny plan to kill Remo in such a way that it looks like a natural death. On the day of the plan’s execution, Sophie plays another mind game. Remo is murdered and Sunny is arrested by cops.

If you are thinking that this is the end, hold back on your seats. There are more surprises in store. More skeletons will tumble out of the closet. I won’t reveal the suspense here.

Talking about the performances, Tanushree, Rahul and Jimmy have done justice to their roles. Sharman is the show stealer. This lad is getting better and better with every movie.

‘Raqeeb’ isn’t a path breaking film, but it does manage to hold your interest throughout its running time.

My Rating: 3.5/5

There is one thing common between the audience and the protagonist in the movie and that is - Time pass.
Ek Chalis ki Last Local is an interesting premise on which a gripping film could have been made. First time director, Sanjay Khanduri, sadly tries to provide a lot of angles in the screenplay. Result - a novel concept gone kaput.

Nilesh (Abhay Deol) is a call center agent who misses the last Vikhroli bound local running at 1.40 A.M. Incidentally, Madhu (Neha Dhupia) also misses the same train. Now, since there is an auto strike in the City, so Nilesh and Madhu decide to somehow vile away their time until the next scheduled local at 4.20 A.M.

Once they start spending time together a series of adventures and mishaps occur. The kidnapping, the gambling, the murder and the prostitute keep you on the edge of your seat. The movie is spiced with humor, drama, suspense, emotions and violence.

In spite of all this, Director Khanduri’s effort is noteworthy but not laudable. Khanduri gives a dark and surreal feel to the flick. Abhay and Neha have performed well in a film with limited scope. Abhay indeed is showing glimpses of a fine actor.

Ek Chalis Ki Last Local is good to pass away your time, even if you don’t get as lucky as the film’s hero who gets the booty and the girl in the end. Nevertheless, with the director’s out of the box thinking we can expect a lot more interesting projects from his bag.

My Rating: 2.5/5

Hollywood actor Sylvester Stallone, who starred in the successful Rambo and Rocky series, is under controversy clouds now. Stallone, on his 16th Feb 2007 trip to Australia was alleged of carrying drugs which are prohibited in Australia. The Deputy Magistrate of The New South Wales state, Paul Cloran, declared that Stallone failed to produce valid prescription for the vials of human growth hormone. Earlier, he failed to declare the same male hormone testosterone in the customs entry form in spite of having a valid prescription.

Cloran imposed a fine of 2,500 USD on Stallone for the 48 unannounced vials of Jintropin carried in without proper authorization. Stallone in total had to pay $9,780 for fine and court proceedings.

When asked about the incident, Sylvester Stallone said:

It was just a minor misunderstanding. They were just doing their jobs. I just didn’t understand some of the rules here.

The first NPower test being played at the traditional Lord’s Stadium is poised at a very interesting position. England’s most successful batsman Kevin Peiterson <once again did the dues for the British Cricket team. His classy knock of 109 Runs ( 138 balls, 11 fours) helped England to post a total of 284 for 8 in second innings. This score added up to their first innings lead of 116 giving the Windies at monstrous 401 runs target.

Earlier in the match a few other English players, Alistair Cook (105), Paul Collingwood (111), Ian Bell (109 not out) and Mathew Prior (126 not out) showered runs with the willow. Later on it was all Indian Origin Monty Panesar’s day who bagged 6 men for a mere 129 runs. This included the prize scalp of the threatening Shivnarine Chanderpaul. Monty’s spell helped England to reduce the Windies to 437 again their 553 for 5.

At the end of the fourth day Windies were 0/0. The last day will be all the more exciting as Windies need 401 to register a win which the English need 10 wickets to do the same.

The media seems to have quite a problem with Sourav Ganguly these days. In spite of his above average performance after he has stated a comeback, he is blamed for every mishap in the team. He has been repeatedly alleged by the media for causing grouping in the team, blocking a place for new comers, camping of the team, world cup failure and recently of being an irresponsible player.

Dada scored a century in the first test against Bangladesh at Chittagong. Soon after reaching the magical three figure mark he fell to the bowling of Mortaza in his pursuit of accelerating the run rate. The Media (esp. Star News) think that they are the biggest pioneers of Cricketing fundas and declared this act of Dada as unnecessary and irresponsible. In my personal opinion it was a good plan in Dada’s mind which didn’t work on that fine day. Anyway, Cricket is a game of glorious uncertainties and luck also plays a major part in it. The score when Dada fell was well poised at 321 runs for the loss of only 3 wickets. The match had already lost a lot of time due to the unconventional showers. Dada tried to get quick runs, but failed. So, what’s wrong in that? At least he tried. His act was nothing like irresponsible or immature.

It’s high time that the media and the board stop penalizing this great figure in Indian cricket and respect his deeds. He took Indian Cricket to a different level during his reign of captaincy and it will be ever remembered in the minds of India Cricket fans.

Source: Zee News Room

Born in Delhi on the 2nd of April 1967, son of the then top action director Veeru Devgan, Ajay spelt charm all over Bollywood. His entrance to Bollywood, riding on two bikes and stretching his legs wide is still remembered like an edge of the knife experience. He repeated the same act in 2006 release Golmaal, with much elan.

Well, coming back to Ajay’s career, he truly can be classified as an ACTOR. He is not a favorite amongst the big booming Yash Raj camps or the Karan Johar camps. Its not that he wasn’t offered, but he chose to go with his style and chose to do more realistic movies. This feature of him makes him a ‘tried and tested’ brand, who delivers, when desired. He is always known by the virtue of his work, not by the amount of Award functions or stage shows he has done.

A man with not-so-heroic type of looks and not a great built body like the so called superstar of today - Hrithik Roshan ( I classify him as an actor of Children’s movies ), what he has in him is more of appeal to intellectual cine-goers. Now talking about his work, from an action Star in Phool Aur Kaante, Jigar, DivyaShakti, Platform to the soft lover in Pyaar To Hone Hi Tha, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Dil Kya Kare and then to the man playing a dark character in Kaal, Khakee, Deewangi to the less speaking underworld don in Company, this man has done it all. The only area he was lagging behind was in comedy but recently after giving an applaudable performance in GOLMAAL (2006), he invaded the territory of tickling our funny bones as well.

His performances are to the ‘T’ always and never overdone as the self proclaimed King Khan of Bollywood. Najayaz, Zakhm (National Award winning performance), Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Pyar to Hona Hi Tha, The Legend of Bhagat Singh (won National Award for this one), Deewangi, Company, Bhoot, Kaal and recently Omkara, his performance speaks for his caliber itself.

With 2 national awards in his bag he proved a point that its only performance that gets you accolades, not good looks. It even took the legendary Big B 35 years to win his 2nd national award. With his performance in Omkara, he is very close to winning a 3rd for himself. His contemporaries haven’t won even a single one. It should be noted that National Awards are purely based on performance not popularity, so it’s kind of difficult for the ‘Ace’ and ‘Badshah’ and the ‘Phenom’ to win it.

This man has achieved so much without restraining himself to a few big banners ( YRF and Dharma ) for their cheesy dramas which almost look like extended versions of the Saas-bahu serial trap.

This Non-Khan wonder is surely one of the most bankable stars.
